    ByHuffer September 6, 2007

Just a short note to let everyone know that, because of what I feel was a poor performance by me in the last Triple Trek, I’m planning on doing two HURT loops starting Friday night at around 8PM.  My plan is to do a 6 hour first loop and 6:15-6:30 second loop.  I’m hoping some…

    Saturday Training 9-8-07

    ByHURT Guestauthor September 5, 2007

Aloha Athletes ! As a break from several weeks of nice, soft, Tantalus trails, it was suggested that we do something different like "The Garden". For those of you not familiar with "The Garden", we are referring to the beautiful Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden in lovely Kaneohe. If you’re not familiar with the short-cut off Likelike,…

Triple Trek Results and Some Photos

    ByHURT Hawaii September 2, 2007

(I added a few more photo’s on Monday from PJ) Yesterday’s race was held under slightly damp conditions. OK, it was wet and muddy. Though the sun was out at the finish! I thought it might be a wet race when on Friday morning driving to work, it poured down rain so hard I could…

    Shock and Awe

    ByHuffer August 29, 2007

I was listening to NPR yesterday and they were talking about this 8 year old girl who ran 2,212 miles in 55 days (about 40 miles a day).  You can read (or listen) to the story here.  I thought a lot of people here might find the story interesting, but I hope it doesn’t upset…

Final Triple Trek Notes and Information from the Race Directors

    ByHURT Hawaii August 27, 2007

This year we were granted the privilege of having the Permit process waived. (VERY IMPORTANT) This was based on our smaller numbers (we eliminated the 10 mile race from this event) and our promise that we would get everyone parked outside of the Nature Center (on Makiki Heights Street, including down by the Board of…

    Mahalo Birthday Post

    ByHURT Hawaii August 27, 2007

My original plan for this past Sat., was to run my Triple Trek loops, (since I do an aid station for the race),  and be happy to get it done. While chatting with Don,,,I asked him if he wanted to do a couple loops with me if I kept going,,,and to see if anyone wanted…

    A Hard Lean Horse

    ByHuffer August 27, 2007

It beat us up bad, no opinions to the contrary.  Everyone has blisters and muscle problems and we are all hobbling around and making those long groaning sounds when we stand up or sit down.  Mean and brutal are the common assessments of the Lean Horse experience for the HURT team members.  Unpaved road, should…

Trail Maintenance Announcement

HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.

HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.

HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
