    H.U.R.T. 12 Hour, Final Details

    ByHURT Hawaii October 12, 2007

Anyone participating in the 12 hour needs to know that we hope the gate will be open for us at 5:00 am. Aaron hasn’t said anything about our parking situation, but it may have eased a bit since TTT. Nonetheless, if you can park outside of the first gate, that would help. Otherwise, go to…

    Hogsback 12 Hour Race

    ByHURT Guestauthor October 8, 2007

Aloha Athletes ! This Saturday is the race that some have waited 12 months in anticipation. One of those is Mike Muench. This year will be extra special, because it will be our first opportunity to welcome Mike back from his summer of four (yes, 4) 100 mile finishes. Maybe Mike’s four 100’s were just…

Man vs. Horse: Yippie yiohh kaiyeeh…its done!!

    ByHuffer October 6, 2007

(The last mainland race report post by Mike Minch for a long time) The Man vs. Horse run was held outside of Prescott AZ, in the Mingus Mountain Reserve that divides the Prescott valley from the Sedona.  The views are spectacular and the terrain is very challenging. It is primarily an Equestrian Event and the…

    Playin Hooky

    ByHURT Hawaii October 4, 2007

Somedays are made just to go play. And that’s exactly what Don and I did on Wednesday. Don’s schedule has been nuts lately, so he’s not been able to get out with us training like he usually does. So when he asked me if I could go out with him to Peacock on Wed.,,,I said…

    ByHURT Guestauthor October 2, 2007

Aloha Athletes ! With the Hogsback 12 Hour race coming up a week from Saturday, it’s about time we devote a lil’ training to the race. Since it covers a portion of the HURT 100 mile course, it will serve as good training for it as well. There’s a rumor floating around that one of…

Man bitten by Bear Barely Survives to Tell Story

    ByHuffer October 2, 2007

The last animal 100 in Mike Minch’s immediate future…….. I was feeling pretty confident as I headed out of the aid station and could see a 32 hour finish up ahead somewhere  beyond the darkness of  the night and some nightmarish group of jagged teeth perched at the gaping end of the altitude profile.   But…

“Forget about the Dog (Leo)”, ” BEWARE of the ‘Fishman'”

    ByHURT Hawaii October 1, 2007

Just got an interesting story from Fish about his encounter with Leo this past Sunday afternoon. He went for an ‘easy run’ Sunday afternoon in his trade mark attire: Army Pants, High Sierra Hydration Pack with attached Bear Bell. His intention was to enjoy a quiet afternoon on the trials but unexpectedly spotted Leo upon…

    Congratulations to Mike Muench

    ByHURT Guestauthor October 1, 2007

Several months ago when Mike Muench told me that he was planning to do four (4) 100 milers over a 7 week period, I have to admidt that I was taken back a bit. However, as he explained it, it sounded reasonable from an ultrarunner’s mentality. He planned to fly to the mainland and drive…

    Congratulations to Matt & Lesley

    ByHURT Hawaii September 30, 2007

I searched for the photos however it’s probably a good thing I couldn’t find them. What photos? The ones of Matt’s heel after last year’s HURT 100. I was looking for some photos of him finishing the race, tired, muddy and pretty much beat up, looking like many of us do after 100 miles. I…

Trail Maintenance Announcement

HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.

HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.

HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
