Well as Don would say, “Guys and Gals, Mikey has talked himself into some stupid stuff, but this ices the cake, the birthday cake that is."
The Peacock 54, in three weeks, marks the end of the Trail Series and the beginning of HURT training. The period after Peacocks is is often a time when the few courageous recover from the 54 and mull over their training schedules for the next couple of months. It is also that time when those…
This Saturday is one week before the Maunawili Out and Back Trail Race of the H.U.R.T. Trail Series. Some people were complaining the trails were too dry so it has rained pretty good over the last 12 hours or so. Enough to keep the dust down anyway. Other people were complaining about the distance being…
Aloha Athletes ! If you are new to visiting this site or new to running with the H.U.R.T. group, you might begin to think Peacock is the only place we run. That is not true. It's just that right now with several runners training for races on the mainland, it is a great place to…
Aloha Athletes ! Run to the Sun training continues this Saturday starting at 6:30 am. This week we will change locations to the always fun "Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden to Pali Lookout" route. Plan on being at the entrance to Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden at the mauka end of Luluku Rd. in Kaneohe for one, two or more if…
Aloha Athletes ! This Saturday we return to the scene of the crime, for Run to the Sun training. We will meet at the water pumping station at the corner of Makiki St. & Makiki Heights Rd., slightly earlier than last week, at 6:30 am. The plan is to do the 9-10 mile Manoa Loop,…
Aloha Athletes ! With many runners bodies still mending from the HURT 100 race, we thought it would be nice to just ease-into the beginning of Run to the Sun training. A little later start (6:45 am) and a slightly shorter route (the basically flat 10 mile Manoa loop) is the plan for this Saturday,…
Aloha Athletes ! Well folks, the 2009 HURT 100 race is almost here. If you're not ready for it today, you won't be ready for it next week Saturday. Sorry. So, this Saturday we have a change of pace planned, with a slightly later starting time (6:45 am), a different location (the Hoomaluhia Botannical Garden)…
Aloha and Happy New Year! This Saturday Cheryl says we're starting at Paradise at 6:00 a.m. Some might be doing repeats and some might do a full H.U.R.T. loop. Time to start training for HURT I guess!! 🙂 Yikes, the race date is fast approaching!! Meeting in back of Manoa Valley–same place as usual (5:50…
Aloha Athletes ! What do you do the week after an unbelievably tough, rain-soaked-50-mile-training run? Well, Cheryl Sez "let's repeat last weeks training run, so the one's that missed it last week can get their 50 in". Hummmmm???? Okay. Sounds logical to me. So, whether you need to get in your 50 mile training run…
Aloha Athletes ! Well, the title of this Saturday's training "50 Miles of HURT" was certainly appropriate. Since I won't be there, I had to chuckle. But, with only 5 weeks from this Saturday until the conch shell blows, this will likely be your last big training run before the HURT 100. So, here's the scoop…be…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
