So I finally made it out to the SD100 course to scope it out…wow…how beautiful that course is going to be. I had to choose between sight seeing over the vistas or tripping down the trail…safety first of course! Goods and bads to every course. Its not quite the sustained climbing of HURT, but it…
Aloha Athletes, This past weekend the The Barkley Marathons took place. Runners can choose between the 60-mile fun run or the whole enchilada–the Barkley 100-mile run. Someone tweeted over the weekend that 12 men had been on the moon and only 10 had ever finished the Barkley 100. Well that number has changed a bit…
Congratulations to all who participated in the Swamp Romp. I heard good things about a greatly improved course with fun, new obstacles and the usual amount of water and muck. Looking through some of the race photos there were definitely some creative costumes. A great end of the race photo courtesy of Chuck Little. Chuck…

Aloha co-workers, friends and family- I wish to announce that on January 5th 2012 at 1:03pm Kate Natsuna Lowe was born at Queens hospital. Once at the hospital, the birth took just over seven hours . In a dramatic test of personal resolve and fortitude the competitors of this years Hogsback 12 hour night run managed battle it out through the last hours of the night. Yet, in the beginning, it came down to one man, Rex V, who made it on to the course before the other contestants to…
Saturday morning there will be a fun run to say Aloha to Jan M out Hawaii Kai way. Please check Julie's earlier post for details. This is also Honolulu Marathon week so….for many the weekend is going to be a street workout on Sunday. I don't do sprints, but I'm signed up for the…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
