Elbows is gone
Elbows is gone! She lays lonely down the gritty black slope. The tree missing an arm Looks lopsided, Forlorn. No longer intimidating; Lost perhaps. Its purpose shorn. One more dread Disappears As Ahuilama is Slowly tamed.

Geoff Roes (HURT100 winner in 2009) and Tracy Garneau (two-times HURT100 winner and current HURT100 course record holder) won the WS100 last night in what looked like perfect conditions. Geoff Roes (15:07) as well as runner-up Anton Krupicka (15:13) both bested Scott Jurek's 2004 course record, with long-time leader and 2008 UTMB winner Kilian Jornet…

Only one Hawaii resident was lucky enough to get into Western States this year though the lottery. That was Maui resident Paul Hopwood. Paul has run some pretty good races on the mainland (Hardrock) and he certainly has the speed to run with the big boys. We want to wish him and all the runners…
On July 3, the H.U.R.T. Trail Series heads to end of the road and Kaena Point. This race is a fast, flat, out and back course that parallels the ocean along jeep trails and an old sugar cane rail line. Kaena Point Firecracker 10 Mile Trail Race: Saturday July 3, 2010 7:00 a.m. The course…
Aloha Athletes, Even I am beginning to wonder why we post these training run notices. Same o' same-o' I hear from Cheryl that the plan is to run up at Peacock again. If I was a newcomer to the islands or wanting to get involved with HURT, I would start to think this is the…
Jan McGriff recently went to the mainland for the San Diego 100 Mile Run. It is a great report and a reminder that things don't always go as planned. She sent in her race report which you can read by clicking here. The two photos here show Jan at the start and also as she…
I came across this interview of Charlotte Vasarhelyi, past HURT 100 runner. Charlotte is Canadian and one of Canada's more well know adventure and endurance athletes. She recently represented Canada in the 24 Hour World Championships in France and is attempting to break the solo speed record on the Bruce Trail in Canada. Click here…
Aloha Athletes, This Saturday we are headed back up to the Peacock Flats area for training. Starting time will be 7:00 a.m. behind the Dillingham Airfield control tower. If you can't make that early start, a second loop will start from the same area about 11:30 a.m. Remember you can always do as little or…
Lots of photographers out at the Mango Madness run this past Saturday. Click here to see the photos taken by Rex. Click the first photo to enlarge it and you can click thru all of them. Also Alex Garcia posted a link to his photos on Flickr. Click here to see those. Finally from the…
Just a quick update. I finished the San Diego 100 Mile Endurance Run this weekend in 28:07. Pushed the last 20 miles, but ran pretty conservatively throughout since I have Cascade Crest coming up in August (what was I thinking!?). My friend Rachel, who I ran with for much of the race, finished her first…
Hello, We will be visiting the Big Island in early August this year, only a few weeks before the Leadville 100 Trail Run that I'll be competing in again this year. I'd like to squeeze in a 20-mile trail run while in Hawaii, but I don't know the trails and there seem to be no…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
