    Tri-Weekend

    ByHURT Guestauthor September 3, 2009

On Saturday at 5:30AM, I'll be at the start line for the HURT TTT, flashlight in hand.  I'll also be at the start line for Sunday's Dick Evans Memorial Road Race, 112 Miles, another 5:30AM start.  I was planning on doing the bike race solo but during one of my 100 mile training rides I was recruited…

    ByHURT Hawaii September 2, 2009

Race Director PJ has decided to only have one aid station out on the course this year. The aid station will be at the second road crossing or where Kalawahine, the road, and concrete hill all meet. This aid station will be staffed by Cheryl and Marian. That means no whining and be nice when…

A Busy Weekend of Running, Biking, and Swimming

    ByHURT Hawaii September 2, 2009

There is a lot going on over the upcoming long weekend. Triple Trek, Dick Evans Bike Race, and the Waikiki Rough Water. I know there are a few crazy people doing all three. I will do those three activities: run, bike, swim, just not biking 112 miles or swimming 2.4 miles. Christian Friis asked me…

Please take the time to read these. As athletes we have all probably taken one or the other of these in hopes of easing the pain and soreness after…

Fuds find Running good for knees…as opposed to sitting on yer ass… I guess.

    ByHURT Guestauthor September 1, 2009

Long Distance Running and Knee Osteoarthritis A Prospective Study http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=2556152 Long-distance running among healthy older individuals was not associated with accelerated radiographic OA. These data raise the possibility that severe OA may not be more common among runners.   Leave it to a gaggle of phd's to prove the obvious.  Do you know anyone who…

    Peacock Stash

    ByHURT Guestauthor August 31, 2009

Since we're on the subject of stashes…  The main Peacock Stash is down to 2-3 gallons. I understand we might have some more at the stash by the trailer (start of the single track), but I can't verify that. The jeep road is pretty accessible right now, due to all the bulldozer work, but it's…

    Nuuanu Stash

    ByHURT Guestauthor August 30, 2009

Just to let everybody know that the Nuuanu Stash is no more. I don't know whether it was a) removed for routine system maintenance b) vandalized c) confiscated by the authorities At any rate, it's gone (as opposed to "empty"). Plan accordingly for your HURT100 training! Aloha, Harald

Trail Maintenance Announcement

HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.

HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.

HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
