Aloha Athletes, Well it looks like I really missed out on some fun this morning at the HURT Trail Series race. For those of you that were there–as usual the HURT races finish with quite a spread of food. From what I have seen in some photos–there seems to have been an Easter theme. The…
Aloha Athletes, It is time for the next trail race in the HURT Trail Series for 2012. This race gets us back on the trails of Makiki/Tantalus. Please allow enough time to drive to the start. Note the 8:00 a.m. start time. As with all trail series races, there is no pre-registration–show up 30-45 minutes…
Aloha Athletes, This past weekend the The Barkley Marathons took place. Runners can choose between the 60-mile fun run or the whole enchilada–the Barkley 100-mile run. Someone tweeted over the weekend that 12 men had been on the moon and only 10 had ever finished the Barkley 100. Well that number has changed a bit…

Folks, We are in need of images from the HURT course for a publication about The Most Challenging Races in the World. I received the e mail this morning with a deadline of tomorrow to submit said images. Unfortunately, photographers will not be paid for the usage of the photograph. If you have an image…
Aloha Athletes, First, I want to thank those who commented after last week's post. Always nice to know that there are more than 3 people that read what is posted here and we appreciate the feedback. This week, Cheryl and Kat are going to lead a training run for the Top of Tantalus race. Cheryl…
Aloha Athletes, Christian sent me the results today–a bit late but hey, this is all for fun anyway right? So the results are here You can also see more photos at this link here. Thanks again to everyone who came out to this first trail series race. The next race is coming up quickly on…
Aloha Athletes, I was discussing through e-mail with Cheryl the relevancy of posting weekly training runs. The size and populariity of these weekly runs varies considerably as do the locations. Sometimes there might only be two people who show up and sometimes there are 20+. In the past, we did a lot more variety of…
Feeling like at the start of the peacock race. I am at the bottom of the hill and am looking up at the mountain. Thinking what a journey it will be. I want to thank you all for the moral support and help. Aloha, George Ramos. For those who haven't heard yet, our good buddy…
Aloha Athletes, The first race of the HURT Trail Series is this Saturday 3-17-12. Race start time is 7:30 a.m. This race is an out and back run–3 miles in and 3 miles back out. It is pretty much an old jeep road with the possibility of a few small wet areas to cross. So…
Aloha Athletes, Sorry for the late posting. Cheryl and I have been going back and forth on what to plan for Saturday. Given how wet it has been and that more rain is on the way, we are taking the safe route and planning on running through Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden on Saturday. Parking is in…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
