Richard Senelly who recently turned 63 entered a 5K in his new home state of Texas and won the race outright in just under 20 minutes. The rest of the story is: There were 10 runners total in the race. Richard had to pass a very fast 12 year old boy and a 10 year…
We had beautiful conditions for today’s Mango Madness Trail Series race. I am not sure where all these people are coming from, however it is fun to see so many new faces at these races. From what I hear, the race was hotly contended near the front. From my position the only thing being hotly…

Aloha Athletes, Since next Saturday (June 9th) is the Mango Madness, what better route to run this week than a preview of the course. Co-Race Director Mike Muench did such a fine job describing the trails in his post announcing the race, a preview run is hardly needed. However, I know some of you will…
H.U.R.T. runners have been known to have an affinity for our local pigs. Maybe some of you saw the recent news reports. A HUGE pig was recently killed by hunters in Alabama. The pig weighed in at 1051 lbs. I hope I never run into a pig this big or even half that size. Though…
Aloha Athletes, This week we have an exciting route planned. This route allows the long distance folks to put in those 40 miles and everyone else to choose a favorite distance and trail to join for part of the fun. This is a great route to tell your worker friends about back in the office…
There was quite a crowd gathered at the Pali Lookout early this morning for the run to Waimanalo (and back for some) on the Maunawili trail. We probably had 12 to 15 runners, a good mix of veteran and newer trail runners. Cheryl kept everyone reigned in early on until the stairs just about the…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
