Well, we are almost within the 30 days to Race mark and approaching that period of time when many will be speaking of cool-down, wind-down, recoup, rest time, recovery, and a great many other descriptors of training avoidance. To celebrate this impending milestone a few runners will be heading out to do the Final 60 miler (Three HURT…

Kenai Pepelo, Reporter, Honolulu Star Advertiser, Saturday November 5, 2009. Harald stunned the Hawaii Ultra Running community last night racking up an impressive 14 loops over the Darkside Hog'sback course. Though not…

Don and Cheryl have asked me to post the Saturday training routine as they are both off island. The fast crowds have some good night runs planned for Friday-Saturday and I urge all those who are in the sub-six category to get out and join Paul et.al. for a good night run experience. Paul is famous for…
After getting stuffed on Thursday, please come out and join me for a 40 miler. Regardless of your pace and distance, safety in numbers! Plan for wind, rain and whine. Hope to have the barista working at JG to keep the mood and feet moving. Will have glowsticks at the resupply to light the night…
There are multiple groups going out on Friday night to do night loops and into morning. I hear there is a 6 hour group heading out from the Nature Center around 6:00 PM ( not sure on the time parking at the water tank) There is also a slower group heading out from Paradise at about…
I am a bit hard put to identify those who did the longest distances this past week-end as few signed in or out, but it appears that the following people covered the most ground: Larry 60+ Harald 60 Frank 60 Congratulations to these guys. There was some nasty weather up there this weekend to accomplish this. I'd…
Everyone is Invited, family and friends too! As a thank you to all who donated, helped me, ran the trails, to celebrate the conclusion of the Trail Series, the start of HURT training, the wonderful place we live, and primarily to celebrate my recent birthday, I invite you all to come by the house and…
Mike and Rex, walking back to the PP parking lot after Mike's epic 60hr Birthday Run, are approached by two students(?)… Dude1: Hi, do you have sec? We're conducting a little survey here. Did you come down this trail? Mike: Yeah. Rex: Dude, this guy is just wrapping up 60 hours on these trails. Dude1:…
60 hours of running, through three nights, on 30min of sleep. (I hope no kids are watching: don't try this at home.) I am not authorized to pass this on, but I will anyway: Mike says he realized only last night how selfish his endeavor was, and how heavily he was leaning on his friends…
As of 9:20 p.m, Mike was with Rex, Brenda and Fish at the bottom of cement road. They estimated that they would be at Paradise at 11:15 p.m. About an hour behind schedule for the beginning of his 4th lap. I did not hear if Mike was awake or not. I know I would not…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
