Interesting article in the NY Times on Ultrarunning and toenail removal. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/22/fashion/22FITNESS.html My favorite quote is "You know any sport has gone off the rails when you have to remove body parts to do it,” said Christopher McDougall, the author of a recent book about ultrarunning called “Born to Run.”
The Peacock 54 is certainly not the only endurance event being held in Hawaii this weekend, as Xterra is also this weekend. Our HURT family will be well represented at Xterra, as Bob & Barbi McAllaster, Nick Kaiser, Steve Dewald and Amy Bennet Eck will be doing Xterra. Nick and Amy will be doing the…

aloha HURT gang! Here is the skinny on Chicago: We re-conned the course the day before by "hanging out" on the 103rd floor of the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower. I could tell that Nate was drooling over getting his BASE jumping career going early. We blindly put our faith in engineers and architects like Senelly…
Aloha Athletes ! This Saturday will be your last chance to train on a Saturday before the Peacock 54 race on October 24, 2009. So….come out to the Dillingham Airfield control tower parking lot at 7:30 am and join us for some fun on the trails. Don
Planning to push out from Paradise Park around 5:30pm for a HURT double. If you are doing Peacock Flats as a training run, then this is a good build. If you are racing Peacock Flats, think twice. Not planning to drop supplies around except at Paradise Park. Working on nutrition and slow pace endurance, so…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
