    Training Run Review

    ByHURT Hawaii November 16, 2005

In my mind, the best way to train for the H.U.R.T. 100 is to get out on the course and put in the miles. Of course, living here in Hawaii makes that easy, the course is 20 minutes from my house. This past Saturday I ran two loops or 40 miles. It wasn’t fast (or…

    Training or not?

    ByHURT Hawaii November 7, 2005

My own personal H.U.R.T. training was nil this past weekend as work and family (soccer) commitments kept me off the trails. I did get a new pair of Montrail Hardrocks (Fleet Feet Kailua is now stocking the Hardrocks) to replace my Highlines so I am ready to hit the trails. Somehow being ready to hit…

This past Friday evening several of us met for a night training run on the H.U.R.T. 100 course. I should have known it was going to be one of those nights when I called Cheryl as I was leaving Kailua and she told me it was already raining pretty hard in Manoa. It was a…

    LED Lights

    ByHURT Hawaii October 26, 2005

Don asked me to post this e-mail to the blog about LED lights. The latest Lowe’s Home Improvement advertisement has a couple of interesting looking LED lights. One is a 1-watt handheld for $19.97 and they also have a 1-watt headlamp if anyone is interested for the same cost. These might be a good choice…

Trail Maintenance Announcement

HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.

HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.

HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
