Trail Work, Saturday 2 December. Mahalo for coming out! It seems that the HURT 100 course has again lived up to it’s reputation for not making anything easy. Heavy rain and wind forced us to cancel the scheduled work on Aihualama Trail. Mahalo to those who braved the elements this morning to show up in…
It’s a very wet, windy, and soggy day here in Hawaii. I know we shouldn’t complain given the weather this past week on much of the mainland. Nothing like 30 miles out on the HURT course to bring you back to reality in regards to fitness and training. Glad I got my run in yesterday….

It’s that time of year for training, and viruses. The Oahu ER’s are filling up with people coming in with severe nausea and also the other end. With our training increasing, please take extra care to wash hands to avoid getting sidelined doing that last weeks of volume before HURT. Trust me, I know the…
It hasn’t rained much in Manoa Valley over the past weeks; dry and humid, like the rest of the island. I ran most of a HURT loop last Friday and I didn’t even get much mud on my socks– which is a testament to how dry things have been. But when I got up…
A Siren Song and a Warm Bed I have been moving forever and I must move forevermore. There is only the shuffling of my feet and the occasional attempts to run which are stalled by the pains in my legs. It is clear to me that the myth of Sisyphus is derived from ancient tales…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
