The goal is far beyond the horizon, the task is before us. The Ultra season is suddenly upon us. We are finally looking at some longer competitive races. Jeff Huff has roused himself out of his ‘other world’ and come forth like Punxsutawney Phil, to once again act as…
Runners, We are @ 13 days out from going live with the race application for the 2012 HURT 100. For those of you who are interested in securing a spot in the weighted lottery for 1 of the 125 entry slots you need to do the following. Read "The Book of HURT, A.D. 2012" at HURT…
Aloha Athletes, After every race we always are either looking for items or have extra items. Please contact us if you are missing something and we can post it here. Right now we are looking for a grey women's hoodie sweatshirt. I believe it is Lululemon brand and zips. It was lost at the Nature…
Yesterday I posted photos from the start of the 2010 HURT 100 and early on loop 1. Today I want to post photos from the finish. I combined Disc's 5 & 6. This is what you want to visualize—see yourself at the finish on Sunday.
These photos show the start and early stages of loop 1. Again the photos were taken by Peter Daspit.
Aloha Athletes, It is the week many in our local ultra community have worked hard for all year. I want to wish the best to those running this weekend in the HURT 100. Runners entered in this weekend's race have worked hard and long, putting in the needed hours to train for a 100-mile race….
Aloha Athletes, In what has become a pre-race tradition, we will be running a reverse trek loop starting at the Nature Center at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday. This run will be an easy 10-mile cruise (easy because you are ready to run 100 miles in a week, right?) and typically has included some early arrivals…
Runners, We are in the final days before you are all out there on some great trails having a great time. We have assigned the race bib numbers and they can be found here. Please place your name and bib number on all your drop bags as previously described. If you haven't already done so…
I am looking for a pacer for HURT. Bob McAllaster has kindly offered to whip me along on loop 4, but I would also appreciate company on the 2nd and 3rd legs of loop 3. I'd expect to be hitting Paradise some time around 9pm, though if conditions don't improve it might be later. Please…
Today, Carol and I went for a short Christmas run. We ran to where Nick K. reported fallen trees on December 22. We arrived at the fallen trees around 1 PM. There were two trees, both with trunks the diameter larger than my bow saw could handle. We did manage to clear some of the larger branches…
Aloha Runners, We will be closing down the wait list on 12/15/2010. We have just sent out 5 invitations for 3 slots, if you were on the wait list and did not receive an e mail you will not be running the 2011 H.U.R.T. 100. If you were one of the 5 those last…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
