Aloha Athletes ! This Saturday it's business as usual for the tough athletes entered in January's HURT 100 race. The plan is to meet at the usual Manoa location, at the end of Manoa Rd. and do a HURT loop, but feel free to do more if you feel like it. Try to be there…
Aloha Athletes ! I just received a nice e-mail reminder from Larry Inouye that Dr. Bill Osheroff will be leaving soon for the Javalina 100 mile race in Arizona. This is a big moment for Dr. Bill as he's going for his first 100 mile finish ! Please wish him well with a nice comment…
To all the inspiring people of the ultra community, I am attempting to give back for many reasons using my feet. Beginning this December 12th, I will embark on an attempt to solo the island of Oahu followed by the Honolulu Marathon culminating in 160 miles of running over 48 hours (or so). Why? This…
It was two weeks ago today (wrote this on Sunday) that we were over on Maui for the XTERRA World Championships. We were there for two reasons. Barbi was doing the race for the first time and John and I were there to show and sell our UVEX line that we sell at Planet Sun….
OK, this is pretty cool. Ladies, try not to drool too much on your keyboard!! Men, better get to work!
Aloha Athletes ! One of the many nice things about the ultrarunning community is opening their homes, condos and apartments to runners from far away, especially during races. Most any of us that have traveled to the mainland or to Canada have been offered a place to stay during 100 mile races. I've personally known…
Last Thursday, Cheryl and Rex parked in the lower pkg lot at Nature Center for a run. When they returned, Rex's back car window had been broken, and his backpack with all his school books were stolen! Replacing the books will be expensive, but the time lost, and expense to replace his window are big!…
Aloha Athletes ! This Saturday it's HURT 100 training as usual with a Hurt loop starting at Manoa. Be at the end of Manoa Rd. at 5:50 am for a 6:00 am start. Don't be surprised if you encounter Mike Muench somewhere along the way as he will be out there doing reverse Trek loops…
I've got too much to do on Saturday and Sunday, so I'm planning on heading out on Friday night for a HURT loop starting from Paradise at about 6 or 6:15. Please join me if you'd like. –Rob
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
