    How Cold Was It?

    ByHURT Hawaii February 11, 2007

It’s been a bit chilly this weekend for us thin-blooded local folks. However, just to keep things in perspective, I got a call from Rex this morning to go check out the run our friend Bob Murphy did on Saturday. Here’s a couple of photos that I lifted off the Psycho-Wyco Trail Run site. Bob…

    Dangerous dog alert

    ByHURT Guestauthor February 3, 2007

I had the misfortune of being attacked by a dog this morning on Moleka trail. The dog (young, moderate sized, black with white markings on face) was accompanied by a middle aged woman (who had it on a leash but made no attempt to restrain it) and another more mature dog (brown/black) that joined the…

Pig Hunting in Makiki/Tantalus and Manoa

    ByHURT Hawaii January 30, 2007

As we all know, there are lots of pigs out around the HURT course. We have also seen all the damage they cause. The State DLNR has authorized and opened the area to pig hunters for the next year. Hunting is scheduled to begin on February 4th. Hunters will only be allowed to hunt Wednesdays…

    Saturday Training: 2-3-07

    ByHURT Hawaii January 30, 2007

Aloha Athletes, Last week we had a good size group out for the start of Run to the Sun training. Unfortunately, with Cheryl sleeping in, we had to ad-lib a bit on the route out through Manoa Valley. Funny when you think about it, we are basically trail runners and know our way around the…

    ByHURT Guestauthor January 29, 2007

For anyone planning a recce of the Volcano marathon route, here is a way-point file showing the cross-country part of the route. The most tricky bit is the turn off from the Kau Desert Trail onto the Mauna Iki trail, but there are a number of spots where it is easy to mistake natural features…

Trail Maintenance Announcement

HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.

HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.

HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
