Cascade Crest 100 Report from Judy Carluccio

    ByHURT Hawaii September 12, 2008

Cascade Crest 100 Mile Endurance RunEaston, WA 8.23.08 Soon after returning from running the HURT 100K in January, I started thinking about running a 100 miler this summer.  Western States was my first 100 miler in 2007 and I was itching to do another.  There are so many beautiful mountain races that I would love…

H.U.R.T. is much, much more than Running

    ByHURT Hawaii September 9, 2008

Some people might view the Hawaiian Ultra Running Team (H.U.R.T.) as a committed group of long-distance runners and that is true. I’ve been active with the H.U.R.T. group since 2002 though I have known of H.U.R.T. and John Salmonson for over 20 years. What I have learned is that H.U.R.T. is much more than a…

    PEACOCK STASH

    ByHURT Guestauthor September 4, 2008

Well I just got back from an adventurous 4WD trip up to Peacock Flats.  Thank god the 4WD on my SUV worked and I didn’t freeze up while driving.  Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that Sean and I replenished both the stashes with 30 gallons of water.  So Rob, unless you still…

    The Ko’olau Summits Trail

    ByHURT Guestauthor September 3, 2008

Pictures Mad ramblings and disjointed thoughts: The winds are gusting out of the east, and I’m making my way along a fence line, holding onto it at almost every step dispite the fact that its sharp facets are tearing my hands to shreds.  At my feet the mud sprites that inhabit the sides of the…

    ByHURT Guestauthor August 28, 2008

It started out good.  I started out with Judy Carluccio and we quickly caught up on things since we last saw each other at HURT.  The first couple of miles are on an old rail bed leading to the trail head.  Once we got onto the trail, the climbing began. The weather was cool and…

Trail Maintenance Announcement

HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.

HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.

HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
