I came across what seems like pretty good info at the blog site of Andrew MacGinnitie or Dr. Andy.He doesn’t have that much ultra experience but his thinking seems pretty good here. What do some of you who have finished WS think? Is this good info or ?? Click here to check it out.
The Hardrock 100 drawing was held today and only one Hawaii runner is on the Accepted Runners list. Cheryl Loomis, Ed Bugarin, and Jeff Huff unfortunately are well down the wait list. The Hawaii runner who got in?? None other than 2008 H.U.R.T. 100 winner and Maui resident, Paul Hopwood. Congratulations to Paul! I think…
Congratulations and best of luck to Ernest Tay and Marion Yasuda, the only two runners selected for the 2008 Western States 100 from Hawaii. Here’s what it said in the WS site:There were about 1,350 applications received this year. The complete list is HERE. There are 357 slots available this year, 166 of which have…
While in UK the last couple of weeks, I managed to fit in the Snowdonia Marathon in N. Wales (land of nervous sheep!). When I signed up, I assumed it was off-road up the mountain, but in fact it is 95% road and goes around Mt. Snowdon. Nonetheless, it is a kick-ass run. It starts…
(The last mainland race report post by Mike Minch for a long time) The Man vs. Horse run was held outside of Prescott AZ, in the Mingus Mountain Reserve that divides the Prescott valley from the Sedona. The views are spectacular and the terrain is very challenging. It is primarily an Equestrian Event and the…
The last animal 100 in Mike Minch’s immediate future…….. I was feeling pretty confident as I headed out of the aid station and could see a 32 hour finish up ahead somewhere beyond the darkness of the night and some nightmarish group of jagged teeth perched at the gaping end of the altitude profile. But…
The Lost Soul: Lethbridge Alberta Canada. Fifty K, Hundred K, Hundred Miler. Sept 14th and 15th (Friday and Saturday) Billed as the Toughest Race on the Prairie. Never let it be said that the ultra runners of Alberta Canada do not give themselves a challenge of the highest degree. They call the Lost Soul 100…
I now have by second 100 miler under my belt. My last 100 miler was the HURT100 in 2003. After that run, I was a complete mess. My hydration was non-existent, I didn’t know what to do with electrolytes, and I never grasped the importance of eating. Even though I finished the HURT100 in 2003,…
Cheryl called me today with some early Plain 100 results. Unfortunately, she did not know who finished first. She did know that David Goggins finished second overall. Bev and Alan Anderson-Abbs finished together for third place. The big news was Jim Masterson finishing. Apparently he finished with Luis Escobar. Past two-time finisher Jeff Huff had…
The Grand Teton 100: Four laps of three sections, just around eight hours a lap, that’s 32 hours and it’s done. So what’s stopping you? map and profile: http://www.dreamchaserevents.com/gtr/gtr_maps.htm course description: http://www.dreamchaserevents.com/gtr/gtr_descriptions.htm results: http://www.grandtetonraces.com/results.php?d=100 Well bud, looking up the 2780 feet of Fred’s Mountain I had an early idea, in fact I had more than…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
