There’s likely not one ultrarunner in Hawaii that doesn’t know my good buddy Cheryl Loomis. Well, last night I received my March 2008 issue of "Ultrarunning" and was excitedly scouring the section "Ultrarunning’s 2007 Ultra Lists" when I came across the category "Oldest 100 Mile Finishers-Women". This gave a list of 11 women’s names, their…
I know you have all heard about Ben and his H.U.R.T. 100 run in Kuwait. Here’s another article chronicling his efforts.
Jay Edwards sent this as a comment and I wanted to make sure everyone sees it. Congratulations Ben!!! I wanted to send a note to the HURT Community that SGM Ben Cavazos was selected as the Army Male Athlete of the Year for 2007. Once the board heard about the HURT 100 and the Wounded…
Several H.U.R.T. runners gathered Saturday morning for an easy stroll through the park–Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden, to wish Don Fallis a belated happy birthday, and to eat some good food. This picture unfortunately doesn’t show all who showed up–only those who stuck around late. All those running the H.U.R.T. 100 seemed ready to have get some…
(Click image to enlarge it.) This message is for everyone. However it is especially for the participants in the H.U.R.T. 100. Half-a-world away, one of our own H.U.R.T. runners will doing the same as you are–running 100 miles. Ben Cavazos is one of a very select few of runners who has participated in every H.U.R.T….
I received this from Judy Carluccio via e-mail: I took Cheryl on a trail that was a dirt version of Concrete Road – steep and relentless…….and ended with some snowcover. We had a blast in Liberty Lake County Park. Saw a deer, but the pic was dark. See you in January. …

The healthcare team did not accurately…
Here’s a couple of pictures from Mike’s Birthday Breakfast. The menu: Breakfast burrito’s with eggs, turkey bacon, cheese, salsa and sour creme, fruit, and coffee. Hmmm? Could be a sign of things to come for a certain aid station in Nuuanu. Click on each to enlarge them.
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
