Aloha Athletes ! With most everyone's focus on our tough HURT runners at the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run this Saturday, it seemed like a good plan to make it a "day off" from organized training. The Western States 100 has a nice tracking system, making it very easy to follow your favorites. So,…
Well I am back from my California Running Adventure and it couldn't have been better:) Holcomb Valley 33 Miler on June 14th in Big Bear Lake, California had to have been the most challenging for my lungs. The whole course is above 7000' and I sure felt it. I showed up 1.5 hours before race…
Imagine getting accepted into a race, training for it as if your life depended on it. In other words focusing intently on getting yourself into the best shape you could possibly get yourself into, putting hours of training in at the expense of other areas in your life, flying to the mainland with much anticipation…
Essentially there are some issues going on out at the airfield now and security is keeping the gates closed until 7:00 a.m. This will limit our access to parking and early training starts for the time being. Steve Villager and Larry Inouye would be the two best sources for updated information on this right now….
Jim Budde here. As a charter HURT member you might ask What have you done lately? And the answer would be Not much. So I thought I'd give the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim a shot. For the last few summers I've played camp doctor in Arizona at a camp where my daughter gets to ride lots…

From Saturday (6/20) around 5:00pm through Sunday (6/21) around 12:00pm, I'll be out on the trails doing a slow self supported hike. The plan is to depart from Kailua (near Cheryl's house) and take the Maunawili Trail over to the HURT trail system. I'll pitch camp around midnight where the Matt Disco Center was before, then…
Aloha Athletes ! This Saturday we have a treat…"Lovely Lanipo", also known as "Lascivious Lanipo" and "Loathsome Lanipo", depending on who you are talking to. At any rate, this wonderful trail will give you your moneys worth and will treat you to awesome views at the end (depending on the weather). It will be the usual…
I have been remiss in letting everyone know who made the Key Chains and Coasters presented as prizes last Saturday. These were made on the big island, and are sold by Petroglyph Studios, P.O. After reading Rex and Bob's great race reports, I didn't think I had much to contribute, but I've been getting pressure to put some thoughts down. It took me a while, but here it goes. About the time of HURT 100 in January, Bob and Rex told me about their plans to run Kettle Moraine…
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
