Hey all, I flew out to Loudonville, Ohio a couple of weekends ago (6/20-21) to pace a friend through the last 40 miles of the Mohican 100–her first 100 miler. She says she wasn't feeling it at all, but still finished well in 27:28 and 32nd overall. The trail was actually quite nice, and I'm just glad there…
Does anyone have any information on the results of this year's Western States 100? I signed up on their webcast for e-mails but never received anything about the race or the Hawaii runners. Their webcast site didn't work at all this weekend. Bummer. Aloha, Ed B.
Aloha Everyone!! I just wanted you all to know that the write up I helped with for the Wilderness Running Company is up on their website now. If you look in the new TrailRunner magazine, coming out next week, the ad will feature a picture of the Tantalus trailhead and a link to their website. It is…

Hiking, self supported, to the Grassy Knoll above Nuuanu then play with gear for additional training, cook (yes cook) a meal, rest and then return ending in Maunawili via Manuawili Falls Trail junction. Easy pace at about 3 mph. Flashlights and food, water and supplies for about…
Well I am back from my California Running Adventure and it couldn't have been better:) Holcomb Valley 33 Miler on June 14th in Big Bear Lake, California had to have been the most challenging for my lungs. The whole course is above 7000' and I sure felt it. I showed up 1.5 hours before race…
From Saturday (6/20) around 5:00pm through Sunday (6/21) around 12:00pm, I'll be out on the trails doing a slow self supported hike. The plan is to depart from Kailua (near Cheryl's house) and take the Maunawili Trail over to the HURT trail system. I'll pitch camp around midnight where the Matt Disco Center was before, then…
I have been remiss in letting everyone know who made the Key Chains and Coasters presented as prizes last Saturday. These were made on the big island, and are sold by Petroglyph Studios, P.O. Box 362, Volcano, Hawaii, 96785. Chiu Leong is the artist, and he can be contacted at chiuleong@hawaiiantel.net, 808-967-7637. Chiu produces a number of…
Almost One Hundred runners turned out for what became the Mango Marv Memorial Run, after the death of one of the co-race directors of the Mango Madness on Saturday. Despite the confusion that seemed to reign on the trail and among the race organizers the race went off well and almost everyone made it back to the…

HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
