Saturday Training – July 26, 2014: Maunawili Out and Back Preview

There will be one "semi-organized" group starting at the Pali lookout at 5:30 a.m. this weekend.  Each person can do the distance, route, and speed that works for them.  I will go in about halfway, and return to the lokout for a total of around 11 miles.  Some may go to Waimanalo and back for a total of 22 miles. No matter what you decide to do, I have two words of wisdom for you: hot and humid.  Be sure to carry adequate hydration with you! You will need to carry at least 60 ounces of water for each direction.  Carrying electrolytes, a phone, and food is encouraged.

If you want to run one direction only, plan to coordinate a ride back to your car.  If you want to go both directions, there will be a water stash at both ends.  The water will be in black rubbish bags – Pali end will be on the other side of the rock wall, across the road, near the bus parking lot.  Nalo end will be by the "BRA" tree on your left as you near the end of the jeep road and before the trailhead.

Important: Do NOT leave valuables in your vehicle at either location.  There have been break-ins at both ends even when no valuables were visible.

Although the race is full, if you would like to enjoy the race from another perspective, we are in need of volunteers both at Waimanalo and at the Pali lookout.  If you would be interested in helping, please email me at mnyasudaAThawaiiDOTrrDOTcom.  Mahalo!
