Saturday Training 9-9-06
Aloha Athletes !
Congratulations to all who competed in last Saturday’s Triple Trek and also a big mahalo to race directors John and PJ Salmonson and their hard-working volunteers for putting on another wonderful race. There were many great performances. In the men’s race there was winner Josef Gyurke, followed by Nick Kaiser, Harald Ebeling and Gordon Lau. The most improved title has to go to Mike Muench, who cut off over an hour off last years performance. The women’s race was dominated by Sally Skimin, who I understand set a new women’s record. Some other great performances from the women’s side were from Marian Yasuda, Bozo Vierra, and Kat Tagaca. Nice job, everyone !
Saturday Training 9-9-06 "Lanipo"
We will be making a rare visit to Cheryl’s (and mine) favorite trail, Lanipo, before concentrating primarily on HURT 100 training on the HURT course. Lanipo has not been recently maintained, so I suggest that you wear running pants to protect your legs. This is a strenuous hike/trail run, so please bring plenty of snacks, water and electrolytes to last for the duration. Beautiful views await us all !
Meeting time: 5:50 am
Starting time: 6:00 am
Meeting place: Lanipo trailhead
Training: 1 or more out to the summit and back
Distance: approx 7 miles per out and back
Duration: 3 1/2 hours (ave.) per loop
Directions: Take Sierra Drive mauka to the top and then take Maunalani Circle, continuing a short distance to the trailhead. Park where you can.
See ya there ! Don
