Saturday Training 8-4-12: Maunawili Out & Back Practice

This week there will be pigs, pigs, and more pigs at the Maunawili Out & Back practice run.  The plan is to meet Saturday at the Nuuanu-Pali lookout at 5:45 and start the 22-mile out & back at 6:00 a.m.  If you are planning to just run one way, you will need to arrange for your transportation back to the lookout.  If you will be running both ways, there is a water stash at the Waimanalo turn-around.

As always, be prepared and carry sufficient fluids and calories for a long and potentially hot run. Cheryl will be your fearless leader. Cute pig

Just a few details about the Run With the Pigs (aka-Maunawili Out & Back):

  • Saturday, August 11 at 7:00 a.m.
  • Show-up-and-sign-up begins at 6:15 a.m. at the Nuuanu-Pali Lookout (map). All runners must register, sign a waiver, and pay $10 at the tent located just on the town-side of the gate entering the park from Nuuanu.
  • Parking is limited; please carpool. Runners and supporters cannot park in the paved lot. There will be awesome volunteers to guide you in the morning to designated areas. Cars must be parked along the roadway leading to the lookout. WARNING – There have been break-ins at the lookout; lock up and DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR VEHICLE!
  • The start of the run is staggered based upon handicaps assigned by age and gender. This will ensure that people finish closer together and are able to share stories and food at the finish.

If you have other plans for the weekend, feel free to share in the comments section below. Whatever you do, get out there and have some fun!

If you do not plan on running the race, but still would like to get in on the fun, we could use a few volunteers for both the Waimanalo turn-around and the Pali lookout start/finish. You can email Marian at mnyasudaAThawaiiDOTrrDOTcom.
