Saturday Training: 2/17/07, Two Options
Aloha Athletes,
This coming Saturday you have two options. If you can, I highly encourage you to chose Option 1. It’s rare we train up there and the views and trails are a great change of scenery.
Training Option 1: Dillingham/Peacock Flats (Led by Don and Cheryl)
Meeting time: 6:45 am (Please be on time–allow an hour drive from Honolulu/Windward.)
Starting time: 7:00 am
Meeting place: Dillingham Airfield (drive to the far end of
Dillingham Airfield and turn left into the last gate…circle around
back and park in the parking lot.)
Training: One loop followed by an optional reverse loop. Up Kealia Trail, across on the Kuaokala Access Road and down the Mokule’ia Access Road and back to the parking area at Dillingham Airfield using Farrington Highway. Reverse this for the second loop.
Distance: Approximately 12+ miles per loop (maybe closer to 14 miles per loop)
Time: Ave-2-1/2 hrs per loop
IMPORTANT !! Bring plenty of water and carry minimum of 50-70 oz. per loop.
Plan ahead and bring all the water/sports drink/food
that you will need to survive, as there will only be one water re-fill
area. This can be a very dry, hot area and you will most-likely consume
more fluids than normal. A hat and sunscreen are a must !
Training Option 2: Ho’omaluhia to Pali Lookout Repeats (Same as last week, led by Bob & Wendy)
Meeting time: 5:50 am
Starting time: 6:00 am (We’ll have an hour of training in before the option 1 group even starts!)
Meeting place: At the entrance to Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden (at
the mauka end of Luluku Rd., Kaneohe). Park on the street and please be
quiet, as this is a residential neighborhood.
Training: 2-3 out-and-backs, starting at the entrance to the Garden,
thru the Garden, continuing on the back road past the golf course, up
and under Pali Hwy., up Old Pali Rd. to Pali Lookout and return.
Distance: approx. 9+ miles per out-and-back.
Duration: 2+ hours per out-and-back.
Bring what you need. Water is available throughout the garden.
