It’s been a busy few months, and the HURT Trail Series is in full swing! We’ve got just three more events left in the 2025 calendar year: Maunawili Out and Back, Tantalus Triple Trek, and the Peacock Challenge.
As always, these events are only possible because of the trails we love. A huge mahalo to everyone who has pitched in for trail work over the years. HURT continues to work closely with the State of Hawaiʻi DLNR to maintain our trails for the entire community—because as we like to say, “It all starts with a trail.”
Upcoming Events / Registrations Open
Maunawili Out and Back – Solo & Relay (8/23/25) Your next chance to earn Trailblazer points is just around the corner! Over the past month, more than 70 volunteers have teamed up with DLNR to make the Maunawili Trail more accessible than ever. Don’t let their hard work go to waste—come run it while it’s in prime condition! Spots are filling quickly, and the registration deadline is approaching. Sign up now at HURT Hawaii or risk being stuck in the mud with nothing better to do on 8/23.
Rainforest Ramble (9/20/25) HURT is partnering with the Hawaiʻi Nature Center to host a fun, educational trail event for keiki ages 6–14. All proceeds go directly to the Hawaiʻi Nature Center. Best of all—registration fees apply only to the keiki entrants. Parents/guardians must pace runners ages 6–11 and will be given a pacer bib on race morning. Full event details and sign-up are available at HURT Hawaii under Rainforest Ramble. This is the perfect chance for HURT runners with children or grandchildren to enjoy a couple of hours on the trail—while supporting a great cause!
HURT enjoys the privilege of partnerships with State and Federal agencies that hold the responsibility of protecting Oʻahu public lands. Those partnerships are based upon mutual trust and cooperation and shared concerns for the ʻaina. To keep that trust and continue to be provided the opportunity to host trail events, we (HURT) must understand and abide by rules that govern our partner agencies.
HURT does organize and facilitate official trail maintenance only when coordination with our partners has occurred. All trail work is performed under the supervision of a permitted individual with advance permissions. Some trails are off-limits for HURT to perform trail maintenance due to the sensitive flora. No HURT trail maintenance will occur outside of these parameters.
HURT and its partner agencies require that no self-directed trail maintenance occur on publicly-owned trails. Any individuals performing trail work outside of official HURT-organized events, are doing so on their own accord and will be held personally responsible by State and Federal agencies for any violations. Such activity could jeopardize our relationships with partner agencies and lead to inability to use public lands for our events.
