2024 ʻAiea Loop Express is a Wrap
Thanks and congratulations to the amazing field of runners who kicked off the 2024 HURT Trail Series at ‘Aiea Loop Express! Despite “the hill” and a short sprinkling of rain, runners finished fast and with big smiles.
Race Directors’ Notes
We’re so proud of everyone’s performance, good cheer and show of appreciation for volunteers at this year’s race. We know for several of you, this was your first trail race experience – and we are honored you chose our race! Kudos for going out and getting it done. We hope you join us at other Series races and set your sights on becoming a HURT Trailblazer!
Thank you for your patience and good humor as we conducted R&D on a chip timing system. You might have noticed one of our volunteers chasing you down at the finish line trying to scan your bib.
We heard from our Parking Czars that those who parked in the neighborhood were respectful and careful to park legally. We TRULY appreciate your care and attention to this, as our permit depends on it.
The next generation was out in force! Three runner parents introduced their teens to the HURT trail series, making it a family day at ALE. Congratulations to the Curtis, Burgoyne, and Koehl families for their accomplishments out on the ALE course.
A Honolulu Civil Beat reporter and photographer were also in attendance, gathering info and images for a photo feature on the race. Thanks to all those who spoke with them. Civil Beat plans to publish the feature in the next week.
We also want to acknowledge Hawai‘i State Parks for their informative website on the history of the Keaīwa Heiau State Recreation Area, some of which we referenced in our pre-race briefing. We appreciate everyone’s courtesy in respecting this place and leaving it cleaner than you found it.
Not least, a heartfelt MAHALO to the wonderful 25+ volunteers who spent their morning caring for, encouraging and guiding runners. These races could not happen without their committed support on race day as well as on behind-the-scenes activities – from permitting with the State months ahead of time to developing/maintaining the registration and bib systems, editing and posting hundreds of race photos, calculating Trailblazer scores, monitoring social media and more. It really does take a village, and it’s all volunteer.
Should you like to volunteer at one of our races, choose a race at hurthawaii.com and read how to contact the race directors.
