Run to the Sun/Saturday and Sunday Training
Aloha Athletes !
It's going to be a big weekend for running in Hawaii, this weekend. This Saturday, on Maui, will be Run to the Sun, the 36.2 mile ultramarathon, starting in Kahului at sea level and finishing at the summit of Haleakala crater at 10,023 ft. Don't forget to take a flashlight and a reflective vest…plus, a warm jacket may be welcome at the finish.
On Oahu, Saturday training continues, starting at 6:00 am at Peacock Flats. Park in the parking lot, just behind the control tower at Dillingham airfield. Plan on 27-30 miles, but you can cut it shorter if you prefer.
On Sunday, Marian will be starting at Cheryl's house at 6 am, taking the road to Maunawili trailhead (roughly 7 am), to Pali Lookout via the trail (roughly 9:30 am), to Jackass Ginger via Pali and Old Pali Rd. (roughly 10 am), to the Nature Center via Nuuanu, Pauoa Flats, Manoa Cliffs, Nahuina and Center Trail, (roughly 11:30 am) and reverse it back to Cheryl's. Total time should be 11 1/2 to 12 hours (46 miles). Anyone interested please give Marian a call @ 221-5171 or e-mail her at mnyasuda@hawaii.rr.com I'm sure that Marian will love to see you out there for all or any portion of her long run. She's one cool lady !
