Starting from Hawaiʻi Nature Center (Makiki), Tantalizing Tantalus Trail Half Marathon (13.1 miles) takes you to Jackass Ginger trailhead (in Nu’uanu) where you will turn around after crossing Nuʻuanu stream. The beautiful and challenging course greets you with lovely roots, rocks, mud puddles, streams, hills, hills… and hills.

Age Requirement Entrants for Tantalizing Tantalus must be 15 years of age or older. If under 18, a signed waiver by their parent/guardian must be submitted prior to race day.  The waiver form is available for download in the waiver tab. Instruction on how to submit the signed waiver is at the bottom of the form.

Cupless We are proud that the HURT Trail Series will continue to be cupless! Bring your own reusable cup or bottle for post-race hydration.

Race Check-In Procedure

  • CHECK-IN: Check-in on race morning will be required at Hawaiʻi Nature Center between 6:15 and 6:50 am. If you miss the 6:50 am cut-off for registration, you must wait until after the race has started to register and begin your run. Your time will not be adjusted for the delayed start.
  • PARKING: Runners are not allowed to park beyond the “Makiki Forest recreation Area” sign (see picture below). Plan ahead and arrive early. All participants must park on the shoulder with all tires COMPLETELY off of the roadway. Carpooling is highly encouraged. The vehicle operator is solely responsible for consequences that may occur due to illegal parking in the neighborhood. Please be respectful of the surrounding residential area.
  • BIBS: For tracking purposes, each participant will be given a bib with assigned numbers. Please display the number prominently on the front of your body for timing purposes.
  • TOILETS: There are restrooms at the Start/Finish.

During the Race

  • COURSE: For runners unfamiliar with the course, the course map is available for download to print or to save on your phone. Scroll down for the course map.
  • AID STATION: We will have one aid station at the turnaround and runners who fail to check in at the turnaround will be disqualified. Bring your own reusable cup.
  • ON-COURSE HYDRATION: All runners are required to carry a minimum 500ml (16oz) of water from both the start and the turnaround aid station. It will be much hotter on the way back after the turn-around on sunny days. 1L (32oz) is highly recommended on the way back. Plan accordingly. Runners are not allowed to start without carrying water.
  • TRAIL ETIQUETTE: The trail is open to the public. Please be courteous to other trail enthusiasts. Beware of vehicles on road crossings.
  • Hiking poles are allowed on the course.
